Classic game Pacman is celebrating its 30th anniversary and will be celebrated worldwide. The game was a breakthrough in arcade games and introduced a whole generation to video games.
Pacman’s 30th Anniversary
In May 1980, Namco released the arcade game Pac-Man. The little yellow guy quickly became an icon of the 1980s, spawning a cartoon series, several sequels, and countless merchandise items. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this classic game, Namco is holding Pac-Man-themed celebrations around the world.
In Japan, the company is holding a “Pac-Man Day” event on May 22nd. Attendees will be able to play Pac-Man on classic arcade cabinets and try out the new mobile game Pac-Man 256. There will also be special merchandise for sale, including t-shirts, keychains, and figurines.
Namco is also teaming up with Google to create a special Google Doodle for the anniversary. The Doodle will be available on May 22nd worldwide and will let users play a version of Pac-Man in their browser.
Finally, Namco is releasing a special 30th Anniversary Edition of Pac-Man for mobile devices. This new version includes updated graphics and gameplay, as well as a new “Retro Mode” that lets players experience the original 1980 game.

What are the celebrations like?
The official Pacman 30th Anniversary celebration of Pac-Man will be held in Tokyo, Japan on May 22, 2010. There will be a giant maze set up in the square and everyone is invited to come and play. The event is being organized by Bandai Namco Games, the company that currently owns the rights to Pac-Man.
