Screen Record

Whether you want to record the screen of your iPhone or iPad, your favorite Apple Arcade game is nearing its end, or you want to show your loved one how to set it up, the process is simple. Up your new phone. Of course, you can still take screenshots and use the tools to draw and annotate anything on the screen, but sometimes recording with audio is the best option. Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch must have iOS 11 or later installed, but this is the only requirement.

Whether you’re creating a new app or updating an existing app, videos are a great way to show people what you’re most proud of. You can create short video series or more detailed versions of individual features. Either way, it can show you exactly how your application works. Also, iOS 11’s narration recording feature means you can even describe what you’re doing.

Enable Screen Recording

The first thing you need to do is enable screen recording on your device. Screen recording on the iPhone is easy, but the device isn’t automatically set to record right out of the box. To enable screen recording, go to Settings> Control Center> Customize Controls. Scroll down and tap the plus icon next to Screen Record. You will now be able to access the screen recordings in Control Center.

After adding the shortcut, start by opening the Control Center. On iPhones older than iPhone X, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to navigate. On newer iPhones, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen.

Change Your Wallpaper

If your iOS home screen appears in your video, consider changing the background image to create a new page with only one icon. To return the wallpaper to Apple’s defaults: Go to Settings> Wallpapers> Select New Wallpaper and you’ll see a Dynamic or Still option. Select your wallpaper and choose Settings> Set Home Screen to make it the new wallpaper that appears behind the home screen icon.

Switch to Do Not Disturb Mode

Turn on the do not disturb mode. This prevents notifications and phone calls from popping up during recording. To turn on silent mode (also known as sleep mode) Tap Settings> Silent> Silent, scroll down, and select Silent: Always.

Lock Your Screen Orientation

Before recording, remember to decide how you will hold your device while recording: up and down or sideways. It’s best to lock the orientation so you don’t accidentally tilt the device while recording. If you do this, your recording will stop or the content will be overwritten.

Start Recording

When the screen record button is clicked, it starts a countdown inside the button, after which it turns red to indicate that any captures occurring on the display should start. You can tell when the screen is being recorded either because there is a red bar at the top of the screen (on older iPhones) or because the time is highlighted in red behind it (on newer iPhones). Tap on the red button or bar to discontinue recording.

Once Captured Make Sure There Is Space

Capture is intensive and requires a lot of system resources. This is especially true if your device has limited storage space. For good performance, while capturing, close all other applications, including any applications running in the background.

Record Sound with Your Screen

What if you wanted to tell someone how to use a feature or how to fix a bug that keeps popping up? Well, you can turn on your phone’s microphone and record while your screen recording session is active. To turn it on, open Control Center and press and hold the screen record button. A new menu will appear with a switch at the bottom to enable the microphone. Click the “Microphone Sound” button, it will turn red and select “Start Recording”.

If you need professional-looking narration, consider getting an external microphone that connects to your device. Alternatively, you can consider recording the audio individually after recording the screen. To get a better sound directly from your phone, it is recommended to use earphones with a built-in microphone or purchase a lapel microphone.

However, if you want to record narration in post-production, you need to find a sturdy external microphone. As with the iOS device, it is generally not recommended to record narration using your computer’s built-in microphone, as it can capture a lot of space and fan noise.

Stop Recording and Save

When you stop recording, you will be prompted to save the video to the Photos app. You can also open the Photos app to view, edit, trim and share your video by message, email, or post to your favorite social networks. Apple introduced screen recording in iOS 11 years ago, but iOS 15 adds more features.
